One of the problems with this cartridge is that is neither fish nor fowl...it is the first USA developed cartridge that used a rebated rim,the rim is 308 Win size(.473) and the body is a larger mangum size (.500-.475"and to make it just a litle tougher..the case length s longer(2.170") than the .308 Win (2.015")based rounds, yet shorter than the 30-06 (2.494")based rounds> meaning that the practice of taking a magazine marked for another cartridge(usings a .308 Win magazine for the .243 or 7mm-08) may not be feasible..However using a .308 magazine may be possible if the feed lips are opened up and you moniter the OAL of your handloads to fit that magazine length....However...before you play try:
