Not very hard at all. The trick to making it easier is to use slave pins when installing it. Duffman.

FWIW, a while back, H&R was retailing all steel replacement triggerguards. You can check at again, FWIW H&R has been marketing this gun for many, many years with all sorts of minor changes as both a shotgun and a rifle....even a muzzle loader. Example: Our host uses a single Illustrated Parts breakdown and parts list that includes the Model 88. Here is that list: Models,48,58,88,98,148,148A,158,159,162,176,188,188A,198,459,480,480A,490,580, and 590. These are all single shot shotguns. The listings also covers:155,157,163, and 258 single shot rifles and the Model 156 Huntsman Muzzleloader The parts listing show only 2 triggerguards...the first covers all models up to the AR series(H&R # 158-030) This should be the unit for the Model 88 and the other for the post AR series is #058-234..meaning..That if you shop the internet for a used part any of the listed models will serve and if you elect to go to the all steel replacement, you now have a list of models that will you determine if the steel unit will service your gun. I believe that the Ar series is when H&R added the Striker block feature. You can go to the members roster on this site and check out Jim Hauff who is an authority on all things H&R..his contact info is on that roster......
