I am restoring a model 1897 Standard 12 ga. manufactured in 1898 according to the serial number (469**).  It is my understanding that this must be the solid frame, as the takedown type didn't exist yet.  It also uses the three hole forend, which is one of the parts I need.  The harder to find part that I'm looking for is the magazine band.  The Numrich part # is 252120 for this gun, which is sold out.  Will the band for the takedown type, part #251750, and all it's associated parts (bushing and screw) be able to work on this gun? Or what about the one for the chinese M97 (part #1080700)? I understand that the right part should be used, but I just want to get it functioning first before I pay an arm and a leg for original bits and pieces.  Please help!

That serial number range is in the year of 1898..FWIW, restoring the gun with anything but ORIGINAL PERIOD parts in the same origianl condition as the rest of the firearm will drop its value...considerably..If you are making a shooter out of it and intend to use it..then original may not be you primary concern..A standard Model in all original and in excellent condition is a $800-$1000 firearm.made pretty cuts that by,at least, half. That said,I don't who or where you have looked for parts, but, I have found Model 97 origianl parts at these sources. Buckingham's Antique Winchesters, Albert has a good supply of Model 97 parts he is not online so use a landline, DAYS:731-559-4169  NIGHTS: 731-559-4357 or you can FAX him at 731-559-4367 Two other sources: www.sarcoinc.com and www.dixiegunw...

and as to the chinese model 97,it is supposed to be a clone....but most times the Chinese parts don't even fit in another chinese gun
