I want to change the barrel of my win 70 .270. I been told that I can change it for a 30-06 barrel, without any other changes, because both caliber has the same cartridge case size.
Most of the internal parts would interchange as the .270 Win. and 30-06 Springfield are both long action cartridges. The main differences would be in the barrel itself. The threads of the barrel have to be the same depending on if your firearm is a current production model 70 or an older Winchester. Also, if your firearm is a control round feed with a mauser type extractor then the barrel needs the appropriate cut-out.
Remember, parts from the current production model 70 in South Carolina do not interchange with parts from earlier model 70's made in New Haven.
