Re-boring is available..The process is to go up a caliber or more to clean out the damage and the rifling is recut. Example. A 30-06 is often re-bored to .35 Whelen. it is also possible to re-barrel the firearm to the original caliber..often with a original barre. Since you din't give a chambering and rifle brand and model, it is difficult to be specific!

Sorry about laeving out the important info. I figured if i knew what it was you should also-some times this old shot can't pull his own trigger hee. The barrel in question is on an original Winchester 73 saddle ring carbine 1st. model--& a beautiful gun. Everythings there & solid but when looking through the bore the rifling seems tweaked just a hair around 5" from the chamber. Because I don't see any way soon to achieve a replacement barrel I was hoping for a miracle. It is 44-40 chambered & Serial # 5xxxmade in 1875. I'll keep looking but I don't it will happen. What would Turnbull do to straighten this out in a restore? I'll contact them. Thanks guys & God Bless.
