Zeke must be out of touch right now....but I'm sure he would recommend contacting Cheryl and Vic, at www.havlinsales.com. Mossberg expert advice, and good folks as well.

silver-soldered(brazed)...but if it is a "newer" gun..then it may be held on with a epoxy..What MODEL of Mossberg are you working on...and why do you wish to pull the choke body?

If it is an original Poly-Choke, it might be screwed on( barrel threaded) or silver soldered. Either way, if you just want to permanently remove it, just cut the barrel behind the choke body and re-crown the barrel.

What RWO says is correct..if it is a brand named "POLY-CHOKE" which is a specific item and not all inclusive for adjustable choke devices Just like aCevy is a Chevy and not a Dodge..both are cars...but it ends there. The name of a Mossberg Factory choke device is "C-Lect_Choke" a poly choke type device. Also, Mossberg used an interchangable choke system....an RXTERNALLY mounted tube. Most firearms equipped this way came with 3 tubes..Full, Modified and Improved Cylinder. The C-Lect-Chokes that I have disaasembled were silver soldered on(only 2 units) The external tubes are threaded on. If you wish to remove the C-lect-Choke assy from the barrel, you will be left with a cylinder bore..no choke constriction whatsoever. OPTIONS: Once cut off, brownnells sells an adapter that solders to the muzzle and allows the use of Win-Choke" style tubes. The adapter is slightly larger than the barrel and is quite effective. I have used this to utilize rifled choke tubes on Mossber bolt guns for deer hunters. Another option is to have tube of a current profile fitted to your barrel. I'll post the name of a Shotgunsmith that does this work in a follow-up posting

It is a Mod.185K-B I put a fair amount of heat to it and it would not unscrew. Customer said not to worry about saving it so I took a dremmel with a cut off wheel and cut a slot from end to end just short of touching the bbl. I then used a chisel to split it. It then slid right off. No signs of any kind of solder. There are threads on the bbl but not in the remains of the choke body. Now customer wants me to fit a new "polly" choke to it that he bought at our hosts. now says the gun was shooting to the left. I have recommended that he try it as is before putting on a new one . How can you tell if the bbl's bent???
Thanks again

One way is to set it up so the muzzle is about an inch from the wall and use a lazer bore sighter to cast its dot..if it is centered then the bbl is straight..the same thing can be done with a flash light..or you can turn a bore diameter hardwood dowel about 4-6" and push it down the bore from the chamber end..if the bareel is bent..it will bind at the point of that bend. I would suggest to your customer that fitting the barrel with Winchoke style(Mossberg 500 type) internal choke tubes is a better option and if he wants an adjustible non-toxic shot choke device..Try-Glow makes one that screws into those threads.....
