Marlin Lever Action Rifle Serial Numbers 1883 to 1906
(Including Models 1881, 1888, 1889, 1891, 1892, 1893, 1894, 1895 and 1897.) Note that records are chaotic as all models were numbered in a single serial number range, and numbers are often duplicated, and the dates recorded are apparently shipping dates, not dates of manufacture. Brophy studied the records and came up with the following as dates of manufacture.
Marlin :
Covering numbers: 1 - 355300.
The year of manufacture for serial number 2780 is Before 1883.

The Model 336 was introduced in 1948 as an improvement of the Model 36.the "SC" stands for "Sports Carbine" and that designated model was made from 1948 to 1963 So if that serial number data is valid..it is NOT a model 336!

OK I found some Info. in ( Rifles of the World 3RD Edition ) page 283. < M336 Octagon rifle, 1973-74. About 2,420 of these rifles were made in 30-30. They had a 22 in. octagonal barrels, full-length six-round magazines, and straight-wrist butts with rubber butt-plates. The squared operating lever was used and the front sight was a gold bead.
Model 336 SC carbine ( known as "M336 Sporting Carbine" prior to 1951 ), 1950-63. this was little more than a 336 A with a 20 in. barrel. Production in the 1952-63 period amounted to 74,220 guns.
