Mace - Tracking this one down is interesting. The name J. Stevens A&T (Arms and tool) was used from 1886 to 1916 when the name was changed to New England Westinghouse for the production of Mosin-Nagant rifles. In 1920 the name and company was bought by Savage Arms. So, we have a time frame - 1886-1916. The model number depends on whether it is a sidelock or boxlock. The sidelock had the hammers and cocking mechanism contained in the sideplate of the shotgun. The boxlock had the hammers attached to the receiver itself.
The sidelock model numbers were 250-255-260-265-270-280
The boxlock model numbers were - Model 1877-225-235
You can try Google - type:
J. Stevens Arms and Tool Company
J. Stevens Arms and Tool Company Hanmmer Sidelock Shotgun
J. Stevens Arms and Tool Company Hammer Boxlock Shotgun
J. Stevens Hammer Shotguns
It probably has twist or Damascus barrels, so it's not safe for firing. And the number in several places would seem to be the serial number. If it is, then it's a very early shotgun. Dollar value isn't very high, but hold on to it anyway.

Thanks for the info. I had the time frame figured about right I guess. Has Laminated Steel Barrels. Not going to shoot it, just want it complete as it was my great grand father's. It's missing the right firing pin; my father was shooting when that happened.

Mace - You can look around, but I doubt you'll find one. Probably your best bet would be to remove the left firing pin and duplicate it at your leisure. This has a secondary benefit of making the gun inoperable. Generally these pins can be duplicated in a drill motor or drill press using drill rod as stock and a file. Takes practice, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy.

Thats what I figured. I have spent some time on a lathe; Dad is a machinist for 35 years or so... Anyway, we'll see what happens next. Thanks again for your input; I really appreciate it.
