The Standard Catalog of Firearms shows several bolt action C/F rifles offered by H&R. None designated as a H&R L579. There is a Model 300/301 that appears to be an in house product and the Model 317 Ultra Wildcat in cals.17 Rem,17-223,222 Rem and .223 Rem. This is built on the Sako action. There is also a Model 340 that is/was offered in .243 and .308. If you run this firearm(yours) by www.bluebookinc.com you may get a better answer.

Justin - I run into the same info that No 10 provided and a Google search didn't turn up anything to add. The Model 317 was built on a Sako L461 Vixen action. The L579 was Sako's intermediate action used for cartridges in 243/308 length. It replaced the L57 Forester in 1960 and was chambered for the 243 and 308. But I can find no specific mention of this action as used by H&R. Sako had a confusing period in nomenclature when they went to number designations for their actions (A1-A2-A3) that replaced their Vixen (L46) - Forester (L57) - Finnbear (L61).

It's almost sure it's a Sako but finding it in print is another story.
