High quality, very desirable rifles made by the Nikko in Japan from the mid 70's to the early 80's. Try a Google search for the Golden Eagle Collectors Association, and go to the various on-line auctions and brokerages to get a handle on their current fair market value. I believe the current Blue Book values are way to low.

Golden Eagle,Tochigi,Japan aka Nikko Limited. These rifles are Mauser actions bolt guns with 24" or 26" barrels, walnut stocks with a rosewood forend tip and pistol grip cap. They were made in 3 grades. Grade 1 in most popular American calibers: Value: From a NIB at $700 to Poor condition at $250, This would be your .243 and .300 Wby.Mag.. The next is the "African" as above but in calibers 375 H&H and .458 Win. Mag. Equipped with open sights. Values as above. The last example is the Model 7000 Grade II which is an engraved model. Oddly the value here is less than the Grade I and the African. NIB $650 to Poor at $300. BTW there is a difference between "Rare" and limited or short supply. Basically these are run of the mill Mauser type sporting rifles named Golden Eagle. There are almost as many offerings of Mauser sporters as there are snow flakes. These would not be high on a collector's list. This company produced firearms for a short period in the late 70's(1976) into the early 80's. They ceased operations due to lack of demand for their product. As I recall it was the quality of the firearms that made the US buyer leery, plus the market has always had plenty of Mauser types available at some really reasonable prices. I don't have a lot of information either, but a gunsmith friend of mine told me that they were high-end imports, made in the mid to late seventies. The lowest price I have found on the internet has been above $600.00. I have one in .30-06, it is extremely accurate, MOA, in fact. The basic design of the action appears to be post-64 Winchester. Hope this helps.

These were imported originally by Jack Carter,of Dead Tough Bullet fame,in Houston around 1975. They were made by NIKKO, who made the Win 101 and a bucnch of other guns for Weatherby, Browning and others. They were very expensive at the time and of the very highest quality but people were very high on Japanese guns back in the '70's. There is a nice write up on Nikko in the Blue Book. I believe the plant has been demolished.

The Golden Eagle is a commercial version of the M-98 Mauser and the scope base you choose will be governed by exactly what optics you intended to use..basically these match up with othe made in Japan bolt guns..like the Howa..I prefer a Redfield one piece with the windage adjustable base check with the Tech Staff at www.brownells.com for what is still in the system...
