This fall, in the Stae of New York, it will now be lawful to hunt certain small game with an air gun...basically..if it is a lawful quarry with a rimfire rifle it will be lawful quarry with any air gun of at least .177 caliber that generates a velocity of 600 feet per second...but..it worries me in that this was done by redefining the terms "firearm" and "gun" to include air powered guns..the "kicker" here is that some anti will be on this like white on rice..Example I possess a GAMO Whisper a .caliber .177 capable of velocities of 1200 fps with alloy pellets but it is equipped with an intrgral "silencer"...which is a controlled item under the National Firearms Act as applied to "rifles" and "guns" and in NY unlawful under any conditions.there is no law that allows even simple possession. Gamo got around that by casting or molding the silencer into the body of the barrel...it is not detachable in the common sense of the word...and...it wasn't on a "firearm" or "gun" As of this fall it will be on a "firearm" by legal definition...So, how long will it be before I am in violation of NYS silencer on firear5ms law...my bet is before the first lawful Coyote is bagged with a Gamo Whisper..........
