Mossberg Model 151(b) 22 cal semi auto long rifle

The people to ask are Vic and Cheryl Havlin at www.havlinsales.com..they run the Mossberg Collector's Assn and buy and sell parts for obsolete models...so..they can advise and likely supply you with any parts you need....However..FIRST..do this..do a detailed breakdown and cleaning and this is a CA 1950's production rifle a rough guess would be a spring failed..like the sear/disconnector spring or the Trigger return spring..maybe the main spring or MS assy has failed..If one of theses failed...broke off..then the pieces could keep the bolt from a full cycle a common problem is a failure in the feed sysytem...even if it is just dirty, things like the cartridge cut-oof or even the tension spring has failed..Point is, you can't tell untill you take it apart..You can find takedown instructions in The Gun Digest Book of Firearms Assembly/Disassembly Part III: Rimfire Rifles..My older edition shows the Mossberg Model 151M(M=Mannlicher stock) FWIW the Model 151 is typical of Mossberg autoloading .22 rimfire rifles and these instruction can get you thru just about any of the obsolete versions.The book I have shows the model on page 111

Just so you don't get discouraged...it took me the better part of 6 months to get this design to function..as I recall, the end cap on the back of the reciever(a sloped plastic piece) that is threaded in to the reciever cannot be fully seated...most times it will be off clock position and if it is to far forward it will restrict bolt travel just enough to give cycle problems and if to far out..the recoil spring assy loses horsepower..as i rcall..a .030 to .060 gap between the reciever and the cap is what I worked with..Sadly..i didn't write it down..so this is just my (pss poor) recollections....

Was that a 151(B) or a 151M(b) ? My references do not show a 151(b) in Mossys- but there are some gaps in there. And I'll second what Zeke said about Vic and Cheryl Havlin. Really nice folks, and have kept my Mossbergs working.

Roy- I THINK the 51M and 151M strip in a similar manner. This is a link to an original 51M instruction sheet- you will need to enlarge it. The firing pin locks the bolt handle in place. Pull the spring and striker, and the FP should move back- could be crud keeping the FP forward. It has a small bit that sticks down and fits into the bolt handle groove. Maybe a couple of drops of oil or penetrant (I like Kroil) to help it move. Good luck-

Thanks for your help and instructions. I, had tried several times, to move the cocking knob, to the rear, for removal of the cocking knob and then, the bolt assy.

NO way could I, get it to move, to the rear or cock the trigger!! looking at instructions, I, realized, the bolt and hammer, were heavy units. I, took your advice

and POURED liquid wrench down receiver rear, still nothing moved!! So, I, took a BRASS hammer and tapped the cocking knob several times, NO movement.

I, then took ONE more good WACK!! Bingo, the cocking knob then went back into place, and removed easly, as well as the bolt assy, from the receiver.

I was puzzeled, what was the problem. Everything looked ok. But, I, soon discovered, a small piece of cloth patching material,about 1/4 inch square

Jammed on the left side in the ejector area!! I, have to say it, was soaked with liquid wrench, and removed easely.

When receiver cleaned, and re-assembled, I, soon found the rifle NOW works flawlessly!!

As the man said- doncha just HATE it when that happens! Glad you got it worked out. Love my old Mossys- walnut stocks, hand lapped barrels, and I do not have to sell my firstborn into slavery to collect them.

Third, a 14M 488A Westren Field. For my collection, I, am looking fro a model 352 or a 352K. Is a 350K, the same type, with the front folding handle/

As far as I know, the fold down forearm started with the Model 152 (have 3 of those) and the 142 (bolt action- got one) Just picked up my second 51M, am looking for a cheap 151M. Have a 151K (24 inch barrel) a 44 US, and a 144. Also got hooked on Remington 550's- now have 4- and it is spreading to Targetmasters, Matchmasters, etc. But really, I can quit anytime I want to. And it's not like I'm addicted- they are only 22s......
