They are called the "Jam O Matics" for good reason. Its a design flaw from Remington that has been going on a long time. The problem lies within the inertia block and the recoil spring tension. i.e. ...the fired cartridge will extract so fast, that the spent cartridge has not completed its burn process before the bullet leaves the barrel, thus....it leaves unburnt powder, flakes, and flash residue in the chamber. This makes the next round chambered stick to the walls of the chamber, and the extractor will rip off a piece of the brass rim, leaving a stuck round in the chamber. I have fixed 100's of them. Great rifles, when they work. Not so great when they dont. The cure, for us gunsmiths that is, the barrel must be removed first hand. Thats something most customers dont want or know how to do. Here is the trick. Once the barrel is removed, clamp it up in a vise, using the gas block lug, and come in from the chamber end using a high speed drill, with a 1/4 in. steel rod, slotted at the end to be able to insert a "Scothbrite" patch of Ultra fine (1000 grit). and at about 1800 rpm using your drill motor and some WD40...polish that chamber to mirror finish. Thats not the end......furnish your customer with a Hoppes "Boresnake", that is caliber specific to his or hers rifle. After the 5 round magazine has been fired. (btw...1 in the chamber, 4 in the box, they will not feed 5 out of the box magazine). pull the boresnake according to directions, from the chamber end, a couple times.....and they will never have this problem again. Trust me on this one......done a bunch of them. Never had one come back, using my process....Jeb.
