Looking to buy a side mount for savage 340C, I'd prefer a vintage scope mount, it's going on a 222 rem with the letter A on the bolt. Research says this is a 1949 rifle.
Weaver makes the nount it is a 2 pc unit...a base that mounts to the rifle and then a mount with intergral rings clamps to that....there are 2 lengths a long and a short..In my experience the long one is way to flexible and I have dad better luck with the short one. You can still get a period model Weaver scope...either a fixed power of a variable. Our host did have the mounts and base and you can get scopes from Natchez Shooters Supply
Brownells and Midway USA also have the hardware
Some of the 340's come drilled and tapped from the factory. If yours is not...be advised that the hole locations are not only precise to the mounts but to the line of sight as well...even a little error can cause major issues with your zero and...unlike a top mount...there is less that can be done to correct errors. If you have to have the gun D&T'd make sure it is done properly by a gunsmith that has done these before. If you need it, I have contact info for Savage specialists Just PM me and I'll dig out the contact info...
